GTA 6 has to be one of the most searched terms on the internet when it comes to video games. Fans have been eagerly awaiting a sequel to 2013’s Grand Theft Auto 5, which is still being re-released even after almost a decade.

However, it looks like the wait will have to be extended by at least two years. Indeed, the most recent leaks and reports of the upcoming game all seem to point to a 2024 release date. This article takes a look at those reports and investigates why that may be the case.

How likely is GTA 6 to launch in 2024?

After much speculation and anticipation, fans were relieved and thrilled to learn of Rockstar’s announcement for GTA 6 on February 4, 2022. However, there has been no follow up from them as of yet. Fans expect to see a proper trailer and announcement by the end of the year, while insiders wait for the game out in 2024.

Insider Claims

An important step in the development of #GTA6 would just be sensitive. Things should speed up (internally at Rockstar). I think that a (real) announcement at the end of the year may be possible. In any case, I don’t see the game arriving before the end of 2024! 😊

How accurate are the claims of the game releasing by 2024? Popular Rockstar Games insiders and informants like Tez2 and Tom Henderson have backed off on these claims, which is why the community has accepted their information. Recently, other leakers have also agreed on a 2024 release.

This includes Chris Klippel (@Chris_Klippel), a trusted industry source, and Mohammad Enieb (@its_menieb). Chris didn’t provide enough reasoning for his conviction other than to state that Rockstar sped up development. Meanwhile, Enieb has created a detailed chart showing the launch dates of all recent Rockstar titles and their trailers, starting with GTA 5 in 2011.

The graph above shows that Rockstar has followed a particular pattern in releasing its games since 2011. This came as no surprise to the company’s longtime followers, who made their own predictions based on this. According to this chart, Rockstar maintained a one-year gap between each game’s trailer and its official launch.

It also shows that the gap between two of these games (including their trailer reveal) is two years. Enieb also took into account that the COVID-19 pandemic could have delayed this pattern by one year. Therefore, if Rockstar unveils a trailer this year, and assuming they will follow that pattern, GTA 6 could well be released in 2024.

The fans are getting impatient

That’s fine and all but where the fuck is GTA 6 bruh…

Rockstar is unlikely to delay the game any longer than they already have. Fans are growing more anxious every day, and some of the company’s recent decisions haven’t gone well. This includes the buggy Definitive Edition trilogy, the relaunch of Grand Theft Auto 5 on next-gen consoles, and the introduction of a subscription service called GTA+.
