April Fool’s Day has finally arrived, or as our UK editor John Walker likes to call it: “International Day of Lies”. Fear not, readers. We Kotaku bloggers are vigilantly watching for any ad that seems a little too good or too weird to be true. Not me, however. Some April Fool’s jokes are too good to do not post — and many of them are actually real. Here are some of the ones I spotted in the wild:
sound borders collector’s edition
Today, the official Japanese Sonic account tweeted details of a Collector’s Edition of sound borders. It includes a wooden bath bucket, a Sonic print towel, a waterproof Sega Genesis, a non-waterproof Game Gear and a rubber ducky. If it were real, it would cost just over $260. Alas, our dreams of playing a Sega Genesis in the bathtub may never come true.
goat simulator musical directed by Steve-O
goat simulator already sounds like a fantasy, but the official narrative has gone further. The poster notes that the film is accepting open casting calls, but don’t expect your audition to go anywhere. It’s nothing personal. You can watch a short trailer on ICT Tac. All that said, Coffee Stain Studios PR said it Kotaku“As history has proven, with goat simulator everything is possible. If the Internet demands it, we will deliver it! »
Genshin Impact ad Abyss Lector playable
Hoyoverse knows that a significant portion of the fandom wants to embrace the evil Abyss Lector, and they’re not afraid to capitalize on April Fool’s lust for influence. Today the official Genshin Impact The Twitter account retweeted a stop-motion video from their official fanworks account that showed the “gameplay” of an adorable chibi Abyss Lector. Players have already encountered the so-called “Enjou” during the Enkanomiya event, where he won the hearts of the community by being a massive flirt. Unfortunately, Abyss Impact will probably never be playable.
Among us decides to “ride”
Innersloth must be stopped. This year the Among us developers not only reused an old joke about riding teammates, they also fully engaged in the bit. From now until 8 p.m. EST, you can play a special “horse mode” by updating to the latest version of the game. It features a “neigh” kill sound created by the Innersloth Programmer and a new kill animation for Imposters. When the rest of us might ask “Why?” Among us asks us “Why not?”
Cookie Run: Kingdom turns cookies into hotties and eldritch beings
Originally spotted by Polygonthe mobile strategy RPG Cookie Run: Kingdom turned his cookies into…well, humans. Apparently that’s what counts as weird when your game is about cocoa raspberry cookies. To be fair, some of the transformations are many Continued strange.
Fire Emblem: Three Houses tea service
I ask video game companies once again not to pretend to advertise things that I actually want. I am devastated to tell you that the official Fire Emblem: Three Houses The tea set was unveiled today on April Fool’s Day.’ The set includes a beautiful gift box, a lovely teacup and saucer, and blends of every tea type in the game. Intelligent Systems, I’ll never forgive you.
A short hikebadminton fashion
That’s what I like to see: a joke that becomes something I could act out in real life. If you want to play A short hike with up to 99 friends you can download multiplayer mod from creator on itch.io free. The developer won’t be supporting the mod forever, but they’re encouraging players to host the mod on their own server. The mod will have server support for two weeks.
Corsair’s one-key mechanical keyboard
Corsair “announced” the CORSAIR K1 RGB today. No matter how “technologically advanced” the K1 is, I don’t think anyone will be able to play Ring of Elden with that. Just to be more cheeky, the key used primarily in the video is “F”. So you might not be able to jump or move, but at least you can pay tribute.
Twitch adds meme-y streaming categories
Have you ever wished you could more easily watch your favorite content creators eat pizza, read silently, spend twenty years in character creator, complete chores, or stream without a mic or audio? I’m sorry to disappoint you. Twitch posted these categories as April Fool’s Day jokes, which means they’re likely not upcoming features on the platform.
We’ll keep updating this list as more companies post their jokes.
