Temper your excitement for a huge week of PlayStation news

Update: Well well well. Like the infamous WaddleDeeKnows taught us recently, always consider pumping the brakes before subscribing to the latest Twitter rumor. After a huge hype on social media over the weekend – and throughout the morning too – Funny games host Greg Miller took his tweet back slightly on the impending PlayStation news.

For those who haven’t followed the context, Miller said on Sunday that he delays the recording of the PS I Love You podcast See you later because he “could be a very interesting week for PlayStation if even one of the three rumors I heard is true”. This, of course, exploded, for it followed a Bloomberg article Friday about Sony’s rumored Spartacus Project subscription. Miller has confirmed that one of the three rumors is related to Project Spartacus, but it’s unclear what he knows beyond the aforementioned Bloomberg article.

To be fair to Greg, his enthusiasm was picked up by a number of “insiders”, all of whom fueled the flames. But Miller clarified during the Kinda Funny Games Daily livestream that this may not be seismic news to everyone, and the rumors he’s heard aren’t necessarily all related. Unfortunately, we are still dealing with encrypted statements.

“A die [rumours] is my [kinda] thing and I will know momentarily [if it’s true], which I can assure you,” he explained. “I don’t want to explain why I would know momentarily. I know something is happening today that will tell me a bit more. And I don’t know what I’ll be able to say publicly, but I can tell you things privately if it turns out it’s under embargo.

So yeah, it looks like there’s some big stuff going on, but it’s not worth getting excited about until we have a clearer picture of what everyone’s talking about. For the record, we did some research earlier today and weren’t able to get a clear idea of what the so-called “insiders” are referring to. That’s not to say nothing is going on, but it’s hard to pinpoint exactly what’s going on here when people talk in such vague and ambiguous terms.

Original story: Rumors of a huge week for PlayStation are really starting to pick up speed around the web, largely fueled by a recent Bloomberg report that says Sony could unveil Project Spartacus at some point over the next seven days. For those not in the know, this revamped subscription service aims to combine PSMore and PS nowoffering multiple paid tiers with various perks.

So where is all this new hubbub coming from? From what we can tell, much of the hype is being generated by a plotter Tweet by Greg Miller. Over the weekend, Miller wrote: “Dude this could be a VERY interesting week for PlayStation if even one of the three rumors I’ve heard is true. As such we will be delaying the taping from PS I Love You XOXO until Thursday.”

Clearly, Miller is a man in the know, and the delay of his PS podcast I Love You XOXO lends a lot of additional weight to rumors that Something is down in the coming week. Additionally, Miller’s reference to “three” rumors suggests that Sony could have plans that go beyond the aforementioned Spartacus project. Maybe an inventory is heading our way? We will know soon.

Now we know what some of you might be thinking: PlayStation rumors are happening all the time, and it’s usually social media “insiders” who seek influence. But when it’s Bloomberg, Greg Miller, and a few other reliable sources all suggesting something’s probably up, we tend to think it’s worth paying attention to.
