I haven’t had a DXRacer gaming chair for over 5 years now, the DXRacer Iron series being the last chair I reviewed from the company – but then they reached out and asked if I would like check out their suite of gaming chairs, including the new flagship 2021 DXRacer AIR gaming chair.

DXRacer’s new 2021 AIR flagship gaming chair is their most unique chair yet, featuring a fully breathable design that will keep your gaming sweat-free in the warmer months. DXRacer uses super breathable mesh on both the seat and backrest, which absorbs most of the heat that normally builds up behind your back and buttocks.
It’s also super comfortable with exclusive new suspension springs, adjustable lumbar support, with a fully modular design that I like to push to its limits. I’m going to see if I can mount my 2021 iPad Pro to the DXRacer AIR gaming chair, as I have a mounting arm with a clamp for this – we’ll see how that goes later in the review.
Priced at $499, you’re in the $429-$499 territory of Secretlab’s just-released and OMG-so-good TITAN Evo 2022 gaming chairs. You’ll choose here that you want the style and mesh design of the DXRacer 2021 AIR gaming chair, and for that price, you’re getting a great gaming chair that has its own unique style and features.
Design and materials
This is a big change from previous gaming chairs, with the new DXRacer AIR gaming chair lacking its usual leather design that looks like most other gaming chairs. place on the side of the gaming chair competition – there are smaller breathable gaming chairs out there, but DXRacer isn’t happy with the AIR being breathable because the freedom of the modular design adds DXRacer herbs and spices .
DXRacer uses an ultra-breathable mechanism that improves airflow and reduces heat and moisture buildup. It’s exactly what you want for those all-day or all-night gaming sessions, something I’ve both done in my weeks using the 2021 DXRacer AIR gaming chair.
The company uses environmentally-reinforced mesh along with proprietary suspension springs — the same used on race cars — to ensure the DXRacer AIR 2021 gaming chair has lightweight, responsive cushioning. DXRacer says this also helps the chair’s long-term durability, but I guess we’ll have to wait and see on that.
There’s also adjustable lumbar support here, with a rail-mounted lumbar support that you can adjust the back support of the chair to perfectly tailor the 2021 DXRacer AIR gaming chair experience to your back. The steel skeleton on the back of the chair regulates the height independently of the seat, which is a very nice fit (adjustment range 15 cm).
DXRacer provides a memory foam headrest with the 2021 DXRacer AIR gaming chair, which adapts to the shape of your neck and adapts to the movements you make. It was a surprising part of the chair, something I found extremely comfortable over weeks of use.
This is something I want to explore more, but I haven’t seen many of the modular attachments that DXRacer offers for their AIR gaming chair. After this review, I want to get my hands on some of the modular parts, especially the Modular Phone Holder, Multi-Functional Holder, and RGB Exoskeleton.
Seriously, I need this RGB exoskeleton in my life. The modular design of the DXRacer AIR is actually quite impressive, allowing for a totally different workstation or gaming experience. If you want a tablet by your side, go for it, especially a new 12.9-inch iPad Pro with its Mini-LED display.
Or maybe you want an energy drink by your side ready to refuel between games…the modular design is for you. Hell, you can even put your feet up with the optional sliding footrest.
DXRacer does things a little differently here, offering its AIR gaming chair with optional chair covers. There will be different ones available, and they are all durable, removable and machine washable. There will be different fabrics, styles and colors – from furry cat themed designs to racing designs.
Use of workstation and game
I put about a week and a half, almost two weeks into the DXRacer AIR 2021 gaming chair, enjoying every moment from setting up and building the chair being an easy process to the hours I put in with my ass in the work chair and games.
The mesh padding of the DXRacer AIR gaming chair is truly breathable and allows you to sit comfortably for hours, as DXRacer says on its website. I figured I’d test the mesh a few different ways: first the normal way I would in any other gaming chair review – sitting in it for way more hours than I should.
But second, I finally bought a treadmill so I could get my ass up and exercise – something I so miss traveling the world for TweakTown at trade shows and events my fitness is down – but then I’ll be hot and sweaty and can jump straight into the mesh chair and continue to work or play.
The adjustable lumbar support is great because you can modify it to your liking and then modify it for the task at hand. You might want to sit more upright when working, while the DXRacer AIR gaming chair is lightly reddish for comfort when gaming.
I went between a few different notches of adjustable lumbar support for exactly that, so when playing Call of Duty: Warzone I could sit up and enjoy my lower back a bit with more support. But then when I was working I adjusted the lumbar support to keep my back straight.
I found the 2021 DXRacer AIR gaming chair’s memory foam headrest to be pretty useless for the most part, as my head wouldn’t touch it if I was sitting up straight. I would have to lay in the chair to use the pillow, but not just lay down normally – I would have to really push my head back and into the headrest, meaning I didn’t use it to most .
Call of Duty: Warzone got hammered on this review, where I spent a few hours honing my battlefield skills – at least until Battlefield 2042 was here. I was more than comfortable playing a few hours at a time on the DXRacer AIR gaming chair, again adjusting the chair to lean back when gaming but not really using the support- head, which is unfortunate because it is comfortable.
I want to try the sliding footrest for the chair, thanks to its modular design — even with the cup holder, I feel like the DXRacer AIR gaming chair would look like “The Homer” — you know, the Homer Simpsons designed car in this episode “Oh Brother, Where Art Thou?” and that would be awesome.
The only other mesh-based chair I have here is the NeueChair, which is a high-end mesh chair from Secretlab. New The 2021 DXRacer AIR gaming chair is under $500with a price of $499 – competing with the NeueChair at its discounted price of $649 (normally $699).
I had flexed between the NeueChair and the 2021 DXRacer AIR gaming chair for the purposes of this review, and generally between every gaming chair I review. I found myself enjoying the DXRacer AIR 2021 gaming chair more than I thought I would, where I could recline more in the chair on an incline with almost as much comfort as the NeueChair, and in some ways that’s even more comfortable.
If you get the right angle and are at the right height, the comfort of the DXRacer AIR gaming chair will be perfect for you. It’s different from a regular office or gaming chair that’s made out of leather or its leather rip-off, but DXRacer is branching out here with the mesh design – because it’s super comfortable and it looks great too.
DXRacer offers the AIR gaming chair in three different colors: black, which I have here for review, as well as white/cyan and white/red. There’s a free memory foam head pillow for the entry price of $499, while you can choose yourself a bunch of modular accessories, an RGB exoskeleton and even optional chair covers that don’t will only expand the experience of the 2021 DXRacer AIR gaming chair.
Comfort + style + modularity = 2021 The DXRacer AIR gaming chair is a winner in my books, especially at $499.
Would you buy it over the just-released and OMG-so-comfortable Secretlab TITAN Evo 2022 gaming chairs released at around the same price – well, they’re different chairs. You get the experience of mesh seats versus Secretlab’s plush leather feel… DXRacer’s mesh feel is damn comfortable, though.
